Global Information: Religion
The world has a diverse selection of very different religions. Some of them are unique and others find their influence in others. Worship is for many people, the cornerstone of life. Traditionally religions such as Christianity have had their main day of worship as Sunday whereas Muslims, followers of the Islam faith, worship on Fridays. Mosques are temples of worship for Muslims and a local mosque is almost without exception referred to as the Jamid Masjid or the 'Friday Mosque'. Hindus worship a phenomenal amount of deities. The more famous ones are Vishnu, Siva, Ganesh and Durga.

Religions are normally divided by region. For instance most of South America is Catholic and so is the majority of Europe. The Middle East is home to Islam and large parts of Africa, especially in the north, worship Islam as well. The majority of Southeast Asia practices Buddhism. Buddhist temples are usually characterized by having huge effigies of Lord Buddha outside or even inside the main temple. The largest religious temple in the world is the Angkor Wat which can be found within Cambodia.

This is a huge Hindu temple, carved very ornately from stone. The Vatican City, an independent state enclaved within Rome in Italy is the home of the Catholic Church and the modern day Pope. Within the Vatican are many confiscated religious effigies, such as statues that have been claimed to 'cry blood'. The effigies are kept under tight security whilst they are tested.
