Regional Information Regional Information: Europe: Eastern Europe

Eastern Europe is representative of the bulk of the former Soviet Union or Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It does not, however, contain all of the former Soviet states. The landmass of Eastern Europe is huge and is representative of the countries Russia (European), Belarus and the Ukraine. The landmass stretches from the Barents Sea in the far north, to the Black Sea, Crimea and the Caspian Sea in the south. The Ural Mountains mark the eastern extreme of Eastern Europe. Other natural features include the Carpathian range in the south west of the Ukraine, the Volga and Dvina rivers and lake Onega. Industry is a big economy player within Eastern Europe and it is largely represented by engineering, chemicals and the exploitation of some very valuable natural resources.
