Regional Information Regional Information: Europe: The Iberian Peninsula

The Iberian Peninsula marks the far eastern tip of Western Europe. The bulk of the landmass is taken up by Spain and Portugal although Andorra and Gibraltar are also a part of the peninsula. The massive Pyrenees mountains form a natural 'fence' between France and the Iberian Peninsula and this is where the higher areas of elevation are located. The central region of the Iberian Peninsula is also home to some high ground, including the Sistema Central range. Important rivers include the Ebro and the Tagus. The region of the Iberian Peninsula is largely Spanish and Portuguese speaking although in Cataluna in northeast Spain, the people speak mainly Catalan.
