Touring: Car Rental
Car rental is a great way to have the freedom of driving a car without actually taking your own car abroad. Try flying thousands of miles and then renting your wheels at your arrival ferry terminal or airport. Most car rental prices include unlimited mileage, theft protection cover against the possible loss of vehicle, third party insurance, tax and VAT. Prices usually also include collision damage waiver. This is the cover you require against loss of or damage to the vehicle you hire.

Cars are always hired out on full tanks of petrol under the assumption that the vehicle should be returned with a full tank of fuel. Failure to fill up the car on return will result in a hefty fuel surcharge. It is usually possible to hire a car for a one way rental. For instance if you wanted to fly into New York, drive to Boston and then return your car at the airport there and fly home, this would be classed as a one way rental. There is almost always a surcharge for doing this. An additional charge also normally applies to add an extra driver onto the hire of a car.

Usually upon collection of a hire car, an impression of a credit card is required as a deposit and guarantee of collision damage waiver excess, driver and baggage protection, personal accident insurance and any other charges specific to your hire firm. In order to hire a car, the driver would normally need to be at least 21 years of age and have held a full drivers license for at least one year. Excess charges normally apply to drivers below the age of 25 for categories such as insurance. Normally when hiring a car, several types and classes of car are available although the choice is limited for drivers under the age of 25. Lists of car rental companies are always available at the airport information desk. Car hire is available to pre-book.
